In 2008, one of the largest and disastrous floods in modern India ended up affecting 2.3 million people in the densely populated state of Bihar. People lost their loved ones, houses, cattle when river Kosi swollen with monsoon rains broke the embankment and her water rushed out to engulf cities, villages and connecting roads. Navneet Foundation adopted two villages – Ola and Beedbhoom. An Owner Driven Reconstruction programme was implemented here as well. Construction material and aid was provided to the flood victims in the villages, allowing them to build make-shift but fixed houses. With a roof over their heads, it became easier for them to help themselves with redevelopment after the flood waters receded.
